Transparent pricing for home battery storage systems. Fox ESS, Tesla Powerwall and SolaX installations with full commissioning, app setup and installation certification.
Battery storage installed alongside a new solar system qualifies for 0% VAT. Battery-only retrofits on existing solar systems are subject to 20% VAT. Prices below are guide ranges — your exact price depends on battery brand, capacity, installation complexity and whether solar is being installed at the same time.
Suitable for smaller homes or as a starting point. Stores enough to power the average evening's usage from surplus solar generation.
Premium whole-home battery storage with seamless backup capability. Automatically powers your home during outages while maximising solar energy usage.
High-capacity storage for large homes, high energy users or those wanting true energy independence. Multiple battery units or larger single-unit systems.
Tesla Powerwall systems can be expanded with additional 13.5kWh expansion packs without replacing the original system.
Expansion pack pricing depends on existing installation configuration and access requirements.
| Brand | Capacities Available | Key Features | Warranty |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fox ESS | 5.1kWh, 7.5kWh, 10.24kWh | Excellent hybrid inverter integration, strong app, competitive pricing | 10 years |
| Tesla Powerwall 3 | 13.5kWh | Integrated inverter, premium build quality, best-in-class software and app | 10 years |
| SolaX | 2.6kWh – 19.8kWh (modular) | Modular capacity, UK-based support, expandable over time | 10 years |
The battery brand and capacity chosen is the primary price driver. Premium brands with larger capacity cost more, but offer better performance, longer warranties and stronger software ecosystems.
Installing battery storage alongside a new solar system is the most cost-effective approach and qualifies for 0% VAT. A standalone retrofit on an existing system is subject to 20% VAT and may involve additional integration work.
For retrofit installations, your existing inverter may or may not be compatible with your preferred battery. Some systems require a hybrid inverter upgrade alongside the battery, which adds cost.
Wall-mounted batteries in a garage or utility room are quickest to install. Loft installations, long cable runs or difficult access points increase installation time and cost.
A battery without solar can still provide value if you are on a time-of-use electricity tariff (such as Octopus Go or Agile). You charge the battery overnight at low tariff rates and use the stored electricity during peak hours. However, the financial case is less strong than solar-plus-battery. We recommend a full financial assessment during a free survey before committing to a standalone battery.
Payback period varies significantly depending on your electricity tariff, energy usage patterns and whether you have solar. A 10kWh battery installed alongside solar and used on a time-of-use tariff might deliver savings of £600–£1,000+ per year, implying an 8–12 year payback. A standalone battery on a simple single-rate tariff will have a longer payback. We provide site-specific financial projections during every survey.
This depends on the battery system. Some systems, including certain Fox ESS and SolaX configurations and the Tesla Powerwall 3, offer blackout protection — automatically isolating from the grid and continuing to power your home during a power cut. Not all battery systems offer this feature. We confirm backup capability during the survey and ensure the system is configured correctly if backup is a requirement.
A battery-only installation typically takes between four and six hours. Combined solar-and-battery installations are typically completed over one or two days. Battery commissioning — setting up tariff schedules, app access and charge/discharge settings — is included and is completed on the day of installation.
Most home batteries carry a 10-year warranty against defects and capacity degradation (typically guaranteeing 70–80% of original capacity at end of warranty). After the warranty period, batteries can usually continue to be used at reduced capacity or replaced with updated technology. Battery costs have fallen significantly over the past decade and are expected to continue doing so.
